About Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is a very common sexually transmitted infection. This condition is very easy to pass on via sexual activity. Transmission rates are 20% for men and 50% for women.
Unfortunately the bacteria evolves rapidly and is becoming increasingly resistant to common antibiotics.
Symptoms of Gonorrhoea
Common symptoms;
Urethral discharge (from the penis) in men
Vaginal discharge in women
Burning on passing urine (men and women)
Prostate symptoms (men)
Lower abdominal pain (women)
Often there are no symptoms (the condition can be asymptomatic)
Gonorrhoea is caused by a bacterial infection
The infection can be passed on by oral, vaginal and anal intercourse.
Symptoms often appear just a few days after exposure.
Treatment is with both oral antibiotics, such as Azithromycin, and injectable antibiotics. such as ceftriaxone.
Condoms are an effective was to reduce transmission via vaginal and anal sexual activity.
